| I also bought 1 of the infamous ghost boxes, if no 1 knows what the ghost box does, it sweeps the radio and creates white noise for spirits to communicate through, hope this works as well lol Here is the 1 that I bought, its the new Radio Shack 12-587 all you have to do is bend 1 prong down, if I can do this, anyone can lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVV4vaKw7VA | |

| I tried one of those, but found the constant clicking between stations a bit irritating. | |

| Yes, it is very annoying, I cant leave it on very long or it would drive me nuts lol But we have gotten some good responses thus far with it, I will ask it to say specific names or something so I know its just not random radio talk lol | |

| Here's my "box" that mixes a mic input with a second audio source, RS radio, white noise source, etc. It outputs the audio to a digital audio recorder, and a set of headphones so you can monitor the recording in real time. [img] [/img] | |

| I have the 12-469 model. There is a modification you can make to get it to stop scanning on strong/local channels. You have to open the case, remove the screws from the first circuit board, turn it over. Then you can either cut, or unsolder the fifth pin from the right, this will inhibit the scan from stopping. Now put it back together, and you're done. https://i.servimg.com/u/f34/14/44/08/82/dsc00617.jpg

| The only problem with using the lock/hold button is that it disables all functions, scan, volume and power. If the radio is scanning when you turn the hold on, as soon as it stops scanning, you can't start the scan again until you unlock the radio. | |

| It's probably just the difference in model numbers and how the things are programmed, no biggie. | |

| Thank you very much Christel and Gerry!! That helps alot, for such a controversial device it has given us great results, this last investigation there were at least three times on video where i threatened to throw it out the window because it kept stopping. Well i just tried the lock button and it keeps doing it!!!! That link on your reply Gerry isn't there, can you post one on how to convert the same model you have? This is so frustrating! | Nevermind I found some!!
Let me tell you guys a cool story. Been looking for this model for sometime now, I called radio shack in our town and asked the lady manager if they had any and she said "no", i called another radio shack in the city of Green-ville about an hour from where we live and the guy said he can get two from another shack in another district.
The guy told me to give the lady in our town some basic info so she can transfer it over to our town, that way we wouldn't have to drive so far. When i called her and told her the information she told me that it wouldn't be worth her time and money.
I called the guy in Green-ville and told him what she said and he was floored!! Needless to say he found two of them and they will be transferred to the store in Green-ville within the next couple of days, and he said he was sorry how that lady treated me.
I got a call the day after from the guy in Green-ville and he told me that the lady from our town called his store on a unrelated matter than mine and asked if he could help her.
The guy from Green-ville said " Nope! it won't be worth his time or money lol" | |

| Thanks Gerry, do you recommend un-soldering the pin? or just clipping the pin?

| Either one is fine. I unsoldered mine from the bottom of the board and pulled it from the top, but cutting it as close as you can to the plastic header will work as well. | |

| well i got some bad news on my part, for those that know me well apparently I have unsteady hands.
I just tried to unsolder it and everything works fine but i noticed the batteries were extremely hot!!!
I did something wrong, something is touching that shouldn't be, luckily I bought two radios and clipped the second radio and all is fine.
I was going to sell one but can't now, oh well I'm just happy that i have one that doesn't stop on stations during a session. Now all I need is an external speaker (was unaware it didn't have one)

| Go back and take a close look where you were soldering, you may have a small solder short that is easily repaired. Did you have the batteries in the radio while working on it? Maybe the soldering iron just shorted something. | |
