| Gather 'round, kiddies! Uncle Johnny's gonna tell you a story about when investigators do boneheaded things!
We have been working on securing an investigation at the Old Opera House in Arcadia.
It has a long history of activity, and has been investigated hundreds of times. Just about everyone who goes there comes away with something interesting in the way of evidence.
The O.O.H. has been home to an antique store for many years now, and the husband and wife owners of the shop have very graciously allowed pretty much any investigator or team that has asked, to take a look around.
Our first contact was about a month ago, shortly after the husband had passed. We were informed that it was he who had really dealt with the investigators, but the wife was now handling it. At that time, she had some teams coming in over the next few weekends, and would let us know after she saw how it went with them.
Flash forward to this afternoon....
During a lengthy phone conversation, I came to find out that the team from last weekend showed up with a bunch of people from the general public (who had paid the team for a 'ride-along'). The shop owner was not given any prior notice that this would be happening.
"WHAT?!?!?!" I was literally speechless when she told me about this. I apologized for the fact that she had to deal with that.
I bit my tongue, and did not ask the name of the team. My first thought was to 'out' them for such behavior. I do understand that some teams are able to secure locations that will allow them to bring in the public to help fund their activities. Totally cool with that, but to spring it on a client like that? No freakin' way!
Did they not stop to think of the liability end of it? What if one of the 'civilians' broke or stole one of the antiques, or worse, got injured on the property? Absolutely unprofessional behavior.
After listening in disbelief to what she was saying, she then followed up with the thought of not letting anyone back in because of the incident. I told her that this was an isolated incident, and that the majority of investigators out there would never have let that happen.
We will be meeting with her soon to show her exactly who we are, and what we will be doing, and hopefully salvage it for future investigations.

| I hope so too, Christel.
This is one of those places that has always had a good relationship with investigators, and I really don't want to see it ruined for anyone.

| How is this any different than what we are doing with the fundraiser? Have we received written consent from the investigation site to bring along a paying contest winner? | |

There's nothing wrong with raising funds that way. Lots of groups do. We're trying to find a place that will let us do it every once in a while. The thing is, you gotta make sure everyone's covered in case something happens while you've got the civilians on location.

| Jeff, did u not sign a release for me when u joined our group saying if anything happens to u on an investigaton, we are not liable for u? And when we investigate anywhere, I also have the homeowners sign forms and yes, anytime any 1 would come on an investigation with us, they too will sign a release for me and its totally different, a fundraiser is just that, raising funds and a portion of our donations are also being given to another charitable organization as well, no 1 is "paying" us to come along on an investigation with us, they are "paying" to get into our event, where they will be recieving free food, drinks, snacks, paranormal discussions, tour thru cemetary, etc and entered into a raffle to win prizes, with the grandprize being coming along on an investigation, so no, nobody is paying us to come along on an investigation with us. | |

| Sarasota,
It is sad that groups do that, I believe they dont think of the results of their actions. It is really sad and frustraiting. I know our group has people that think these things through before we do things. Because after all you are representing yourselves and in this situation the paranormal community.
Well put Christel...like you didn't know that. Never the less I hope your situation works out Sarasota.
